Retirement Assessments and Tools

As a Certified Retirement Options Coach, I have the opportunity to use a number of assessments and tools to help pre-retirees assess their readiness for retirement and recareering. Depending on the circumstances and the individual needs of my clients, I use one of the following three assessment tools. Each of these assessments is taken over the Internet and the results are provided immediately. Each assessment has a companion book described below. In addition, these assessment tools are used in conjunction with other materials that are provided to the client by the coach including:

  • Life Transition Insight and Involvement Exercises to be used by the client.
  • Powerful Questions for goal setting and “the next steps” are asked to deepen the learning.
  • Ongoing one-on-one and group coaching for areas where the client needs support.
The Retirement Success Profile (RSP)

This assessment gives a person a comprehensive overview of the areas that he or she is strong in and identifies those areas in which they need more preparation. The RSP is a scientifically designed detailed profile that measures the 15 factors crucial to a client’s readiness to retire successfully. It assists clients in gaining comprehensive self-understanding as they plan for their unique retirement. This product consists of 120 questions, which were designed specifically for individuals and very small groups. A summary of the results of the RSP is provided in a 23-page printout, which is interpreted by the coach to determine the strengths and weaknesses. The New Retirement, a 121-page book by Richard Johnson, accompanies the RSP.
